To take the ward to a boarding school is a vital one which has to be taken with a lot of thinking. It is advisable to the parents to involve the child in a decision so that it is easier for the child to take the transition. The first thing you have to do is get all different types of information about the boarding schools.
You then have to talk to your child about why you think that boarding school is the best option for your child. You will be facing a lot of adverse reactions from your child because it is very difficult for a child to leave the affection of the parent’s secure and stable world and to join a totally new environment.
You have to listen to your kid, talk as much as you can, so that you can erase the feeling of fear in them. All these years they have lived in the protective world of your love, they are now going to meet and live in the outside world. In the boarding school, your child has to make new friends and families since they are now leaving the familiarity of their homes and they have to make new friends.
As a parent you have to take care of your psychological and emotional turmoil of the child. Unless and until they make new friends, at the beginning they will feel very depressed lonely and unhappy. You have to constantly talk with them, reassure them that your love is always there for your child.
Your child must not feel that he is not wanted at home. You can take your child to the boarding school you choose as a vacation visit. Make them acclimatized with the environment of the school, meet the teachers and let the kid find out about the environment of the boarding school.
Let the child see what the extra curricular activities available are and so on. Your child can be in constant touch through phones, letters emails and so on. Contact your child at regular intervals. Shop together for the new boarding school. Do not feel guilty; give your full support to the child. Show them that you have complete faith in their abilities to cope with the new situation because at the end of the day your child is going to blossom into an independent, resilient, self reliant human being or individual.
