Which Toys Should You Choose For Your Baby?

Everyone knows how important toys are for babies. In fact, baby toys are the best learning tools and choosing the proper toys for babies actually makes a big difference. You could even help develop your child’s brain with the appropriate toys so what toys should you get for your babies?

Well, firstly, it is highly recommended that the toys you buy for your babies stimulate your baby’s senses. This is simply because each new day is a day of discovery for your baby and you should get toys which stimulate your baby’s senses and also their curiosity.

Choose which are chewable or have interesting sounds and sights as a part of the package. Texture, too should not be underestimated. Why not get a little activity centre or a baby gym for your little one to inculcate in your baby a sense of how to make things happen? A lot of times your best efforts may go unnoticed, don’t worry if your baby doesn’t take to the toy, you can re-introduce it later. It probably just means that your baby is not ready for it.

While you are selecting toys do ensure to give top priority to safety. This is simply because babies can get up to a whole lot of trouble if you are not careful with them! This especially applies to toys which are old and heirlooms. In fact these toys could be considered downright damaging and harmful by today’s standards. Another thing to keep in mind is the sturdiness of the toy, make sure that it is safe and sturdy and doesn’t have any cutting or choking hazards attached to it.

Another thing you should consider while selecting toys for your baby is age appropriateness. You need to know whether your child is developed enough to accept or grasp the toy at their age when you introduce it.

While thinking of toys which are age appropriate you need to choose those toys which stimulate your child to learn more without causing them irritation and frustration, else they might lose interest. One great guideline for this is to check the age appropriateness on the toy label. These labels are made keeping in mind the general mental and physical abilities of children at different ages. Not just that, their needs and safety are also taken into account while designing the labels. So do be careful while selecting toys for your babies and don’t forget to have fun while you are at it.

Vocabulary Woes Sorted Out!

One of the first things parents should work on is their child’s vocabulary. This will stand them in good stead throughout their lives, especially as they progress from one year to another in school and college. Having a good vocabulary enables your child to be articulate and that, as we all know is an extremely important ability. Being articulate means knowing which words to use in what situations and without a good vocabulary stock, this is simply not possible.

Fortunately, it isn’t so much of a problem to work on your child’s vocabulary. All children, by the grace of god are blessed with an amazing ability to grasp and learn things really fast. Another thing which children can do is repeat – in fact repetition is one of the basic tools for learning which one must use with young ones. At the same time, do keep in mind that you have to introduce fresh words because otherwise they will get tired of their little exercise.

Another thing which children are great at is linking and making connections and while teaching or sharpening your child’s vocabulary, you should definitely capitalize on that fact. The results will be nothing short of breathtaking- sometimes your children can really surprise you with how bright they are.

Variety
as we all know is the spice of life and we should keep this in mind while teaching our children. Take tips from your child’s preschool – they have an amazing way of instilling words into your child with the help of nursery rhymes with the help of catchy sing-song tunes which your child is bound to remember. Plus, the actions and the mimicking – which go with it? They’re always a hit with the kids.

However, while you are teaching your child, make sure that you look them directly in the eye and also ensure that your pronunciations are phonetically correct. When you are unsure, look the pronunciation up in the dictionary. Reading out loud is a wonderful way of teaching your kids new words. Consciously include new words in the portion you’re reading out so as to rouse your child’s curiosity and get them to ask you questions.

Also, remember not to be too harsh when they speak incorrectly or pronounce incorrectly. Correct them in a gentle fashion and get them to use the words in a different manner. Each child has their own pace of learning and it is important to respect that, do keep that in mind while developing your child’s vocabulary.

You have become mature and more responsible with this bundle of joy coming into your life. But you must keep in mind some steps which will help you to build a strong bond with your child.

Tell them that you love them and show your care towards them – express: it is very important that you express to your children how much you love and care for them. You can cuddle them up, show your appreciation when they do something good, make sure that you show enough encouragement to them. This will help them to build confidence.

Everyday, make it a point to tell them that you love them very much. Give them some warm hugs and kisses often. Let them know that you are ready to love them unconditionally. This will make your bond the strongest bond in the world!

Listen to your children: you believe that a bond can be developed over a good communication, right? Then know that communication is always a two way process. You must listen to your child attentively. This will ensure your involvement in their lives as well. Make yourself approachable so that they come to you with their problems. Or else if they do not do that they will talk about their problems to others and there is a chance of getting misguided.

Make them feel safe: give them the privacy that they need. You must not step in their private space.

If you have 2 children, treat them equally. Otherwise one of them will feel left out. While they fight, don’t take sides.

Give up on your bad habits. Now that you are a parent, you are not only responsible for your safety but for the safety of your child as well. Smoking in front of your child will pollute the environment you will involve him in passive smoking.

If you are an alcoholic, your child will be mentally affected seeing you in that state. You will create a very negative image in your child’s eyes. This is true for drug abuse as well. If you have the habit of gambling, you will be misusing a lot of money that you can save for your child’s future.

Building An Athlete

Is your child growing to be a strong young man or an agile young woman? Is your child showing the makings of becoming a great athlete? Then by all means you should encourage them in every way you can and the best way to do so would be to not only take them to practice every day and helping them with their homework, but to ensure that they are getting the right kind of food.

You don’t want your child reaching their teen years and going in for steroids and other drugs so as to build their bodies. They won’t feel the need to do so if they are fit and agile naturally! Also, it is important to remember that athletes are under a lot more pressure than normal people to have the perfect bodies. So if you find your child acting strange about their food, please don’t be too harsh on them.

The first thing you should do is make sure your athletic young one gets enough carbs because this is the principle source of energy for them. Do ensure that you don’t overload your kids with carbs before an important match or game. But make it a major part of their diet every day. Also, while you’re at it, make sure the carbs they get are from whole grains and fruit.

Next in order of importance are proteins. In order to build strong muscles, every athlete needs to have a good amount of protein on a regular basis. But remember that proteins aren’t some magic pill which will give your kids a strong, athletic body. That comes from exercise and training. Too much protein can lead to constipation, dehydration and lass of calcium. Give your little athlete lean proteins from sources like fish and white meat.

Vitamins and minerals are vital for kids. Calcium and iron are extremely important because calcium helps build strong bones and iron is helps to transport oxygen to various body parts. We all know that calcium can be found in milk. But you can also try giving your kids leafy green veggies. Iron can be found in salmon, tuna, eggs and dry fruit.

Lastly, in order to prevent dehydration, make sure your child is drinking enough fluid. Teach them to take sips of fluid every 15-20 min when they’re exercising or training. And give them loads of fruit juice to keep them strong, healthy and athletic.
